Why culture change is key to the success of business intelligence technology.

I’ve written a piece for growthbusiness.co.uk. I outline some of the reasons why business culture is so crucial to BI success. I mention a few ways in which effective BI cultural change can be achieved.

It’s an important topic that I’m always happy to write about and discuss. It’s commonly understood that successful BI is about more than just technology. Many BI projects still put too much focus on technical aspects and not enough focus on the challenge of establishing a healthy BI culture in the business. When BI technology fails to adequately connect with a business’s people and processes, it’s impossible to achieve the positive business change that is (or should be) the ultimate objective of any BI project.

Unlike BI technology, BI culture can’t simply be installed and switched on.

In the piece, I describe how a healthy BI culture is typified by two things; Business processes that are appropriate for achieving the business’s goals, and people who understand how to interpret and apply the right information to those processes. I continue by briefly calling out some methods of building a healthy and effective BI culture.
